Bob and Roberta Smith: Thamesmead Codex

In 1968, Thamesmead was built in southeast London to help alleviate London’s housing shortage. It was one of many modernist large-scale housing projects built across Europe after the Second World War. Bob and Roberta Smith talked to many local residents across the generations who grew up here and turned their conversations into 24 painted placards which are now displayed in this exhibition. Read their stories and histories, their desires, views and more.
